(Neb)-Busy Day Today At County Fairs

By: John Axtell Posted at: 08/03/2017 01:28 AM
CHADRON - Today’s schedule at the Dawes County Fair in Chadron got started bright and early with a free breakfast from the Bank of the West at 7:00 in the Open Air Arena.

It’s another busy livestock day with the 4-H Goat Show, 4-H Sheep Show, and 4-H Market Beef Show as well as the 4-H Bucket Calf Interviews and the Sheep, Goat, and Bucket Calf Education Hour is at 5:00.

Cakes are also a focus with the 4-H Creatively Decorated Cakes interviews in the afternoon and live auction of those cakes and pies at 6:30 at the grandstands - a sweet lead-in to one of the most popular events of the Fair: the Rubber Check Race at 7:00.

Teams representing local businesses and organizations compete in a wacky relay using all sorts of modes of transportation...usually including horses and one or two types of motorized devices.

KCSR is broadcasting live from the fair again today, but only from 10:00-12:30 because it has afternoon baseball, the Rockies and Mets with Rockies On Deck at 12:30.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to keep up with the fair because we're moving the live broadcast to sister station KBPY from 1:00-4:00.

The Fall River County Fair in Edgemont has the Rabbit and Poultry Shows and the 4-H and Open Class Swine, Sheep and Goat Shows all this morning. The 4-H Archery Fun Shoot and Exhibition runs from 10-1:00 while the 4-H Ag Olympics at 3:00 will be preceded by 4-H rocket launches.

The evening entertainment starts with the free chuckwagon feed at 5:00, which is also when registration for the Rubbercheck Race begins. The Calcutt and race begin at 6:00 and have free admission. Wrapping up the evening after the race will be the Teen Dance in the back room of Exhibit Hall

The Sioux County is back in action with 4-H and Open Class Entry Day starting at 9:00. The afternoon offers the Junior King and Queen Contest at 3:00 and the Junior Rodeo at 4:00. The evening has the Sioux County High School Alumni Banquet at 6:00 with the United Methodist Women Pie and Ice Cream Social at the softball/football field at 7:00.
