(SD)-Deputy Wounds Man, 2 Arrested
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) A Pennington County Sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a man Monday afternoon who had pointed a gun at him during a warrant check in Box Elder.
21-year old Cruz Louis Deleon was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the deputy was not hurt.
According to a release from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, the deputy was searching for 30- year old Cassandra Deanna Quiver, wanted on a felony bench warrant for possession of controlled substances, when he found Quiver and Deleon together at a Box Elder home.
The deputy said Deleon pointed a handgun at hime, and that he responded by shooting Deleon. The deputy was not injured and arrested both Quiver and Deleon, who had felony warrants of his own - two for drug charges and 2 for weapons charges.
The deputy was then placed on administrative leave as per standard procedure.
The case has been turned over to the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation with assistance from the Rapid City Police Department and the Box Elder Police Department.
