(Neb)-Crawford Fountain Restored, Redecorated Listen
CRAWFORD - Crawford's century-old Memorial Fountain in City Park is now operating for the first time in many years, thanks to a community effort headed by Pam Kuhnel and Crawford Helping Hands Inc.
Kuhnel says the fountain was so badly deteriorated and cracked that it wouldn't hold water and the plumbing needed to be replaced. Repairs, renovation, and restoration began two years ago so that the work would be done in time for the fountain's centennial.
Kuhnel says many visitors to the park in recent years didn't even know the modest fountain was there, just inside the park entrance near the Memorial Grove.
She's pleased that the restoration was completed in time for the fountain to be rededicated July 1st as part of the opening of Crawford's Old West Trail Rodeo and 4th of July Celebration.
Pam's husband, Ed, did the bulk of the restoration work, aided by a number of others. The fountain now operates daily except in the winter and is lit into the evening. Kuhnel says Helping Hands added a special topper to the fountain that creates sparkles
Although the Crawford Memorial Fountain is once again in operation, Kuhnel and other supporters are hoping to build an endowment to help fund on-going maintenance and other enhancements
As part of that effort, Crawford Helping Hands is holding a fundraising BBQ at the Crawford City Pool tonight from 5-7:00.
