(Neb)-Baler Blamed For Fire North Of Chadron
CHADRON - A baler is blamed for the the 1.7-acre Isham Fire late Friday morning about 7 miles north of Chadron. The Great Plains Fire Information Center listed it as contained at noon, but Chadron VFD crews were on hand until around 2:00.
Fire Chief Jack Rhembrandt says the initial investigation couldn't determine what the problem was on the baler that triggered the fire on private land. The baler was destroyed along with 3 large round bales of grass hay, two on the ground and one still in the baler.
Rhembrandt says a pair of landowner fire rigs helped get a quick attack on the fire while the Dawes County Sheriff's Office guided his trucks right to the scene.
Several smaller fires in the central Black Hills were controlled either yesterday or two, all held to less than 2 acres.
