(Neb)-NPPD Announces Community-Wide Outage Early Next Tues In Chadron
CHADRON - For the second time in 4-1/2 months, Nebraska Public Power District will be shutting off all the power to Chadron and the surrounding area for maintenance work at the Chadron sub-station.
NPPD spokesman Mark Becker says the big difference between the outage planned for next Tuesday and the one on March 8th is that the earlier one was held in the evening while next week's will be in the early morning - beginning at 1 am and expected to last about 4 hours.
Becker says having the outage and doing the maintenance work in the early morning hours is expected to have the least amount of impact on the community.
NPPD has the same suggestions it did in March: have a flashlight available for emergency lighting, turn off any electrical equipment - especially computers - before the power goes out, and avoid opening refrigerators and freezers while the power is out to keep them as cold as possible.
Becker says if the weather next Tuesday is uncooperative and prevents the maintenance work from being done, the backup date will be the next day, July 19, also at 1:30 am.
