(SD)-Ethics Constitution Amendment Backers Plan Kickoff Events
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -Supporters of a constitutional amendment that would replace a government ethics initiative passed by South Dakota voters last year and repealed by the legislature this year are holding petition kickoff events in 7 cities across the state.
Represent South Dakota says Rapid City, Madison, and Sioux Falls will be the first this Saturday. Backers would have to submit nearly 28,000 valid signatures by November for the amendment to appear on next year's general election ballot.
The initiative would tighten campaign finance and lobbying restrictions, create an independent ethics commission and prevent the Legislature from altering or rejecting laws approved by voters without returning to the ballot, among other provisions
