(Neb)-Part Of DHHS Public Health Moves In With DEQ
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Environmental Quality, the two state agencies that regulate treatment of wastewater and drinking. are joining forces in an effort to provide more efficient, streamlined services to the public.
It's not a merger, but 24 HHS staffers who deal with wastewater will move into shared office space with the DEQ wastewater staff with 7 HHS field staff also working with DEQ. The partnership starts August 1st.
DEQ Director Jim Macy says the partnership is expected to save the state money over time while HHS Public Health division director Dr. Tom Williams says the arrangement works because the drinking water and wastewater programs of the two agencies are similar.
