POLOSON, Mont. (AP) - Montana authorities say an autopsy has confirmed that body found in the Flathead River last Tuesday was that of a Nebraska Panhandle man missing since falling into the river on the last day of May.
of a 23-year-old Nebraska man has been recovered from a northwestern Montana river.
Lake County Undersheriff Ben Woods says tattoo art was used to confirm the identity of 23-year old Richard Mitchell of Minatare.
Mitchell and two friends from Gering had hiked down to a scenic overlook just below the SQK Dam on the Flathead Indian Reservation, then continued past warning signs and barriers to a cliff area where Mitchell slipped and fell into the fast-moving water.
A multi-day active search was eventually called off and Mitchell's body remained undiscovered until it was spotted June 27th by a fisherman about 17 river miles downstream from the dam.
