(Neb)-Lightning Fire Burns 3 Acres Of Soldier Creek Wilderness
RAPID CITY - The Great Plains Fire Information Center says a small fire in the Soldier Creek Wilderness Area on the northwest side of Fort Robinson State Park was fought and contained over the holiday period.
The Middle Fork Fire was reported just before 5:00 Monday and was contained after burning about 3 acres.
Also fought and contained over the holiday was the 2-acre Tower Fire on the Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands. It was reported around 2:00 Monday afternoon about 2-miles south of the Scott Lookout Tower near Halsey.
Five fires, mostly on the Black HIlls National Forest, were held to less than an acre each after being spotted either Monday or Tuesday.
All the fires were the result of lightning.
