(Neb)-Colorado Boy Hurt In Lake Minatare Boating Accident
LAKE MINATARE - A 9-year old Colorado boy is in a Denver hospital with “significant injuries” suffered in a boating accident at Lake Minatare. The boy's name has not yet been released.
Nebraska Game and Parks says the boy was on a paddle board behind his family's power boat, driven by his grandfather, when the boat pulled up to the dock at the Lighthouse boat ramp to drop off one load of passengers and pick up another.
The grandfather put the boat into neutral to back away from the dock, but the boy fell off his board and was run over by the boat.
He was flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff by the Air Link helicopter ambulance for initial treatment, then was flown to Denver.
The dock and nearby area wer blocked off with police caution tape after the accident and boats weren't allowed in to the lake from there.
Game and Parks is investigating the accident with help from the Nebraska State Patrol, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsbluff Fire and Rescue, and an area dive team. The initial investigation indicates alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
