(Neb)-Two Arrested In Sidney Meth-By-Mail Scheme
SIDNEY - Formal charges will be filed today against a Sidney couple arrested Friday morning as part of an alleged scheme to transport methamphetamine through the mail
49-year old Sean Ewert and 36-year old Nikole Houser were arrested as Ewert collected a package at the Sidney Post office. The package, sent from Mesa, Arizona, contained 4 ounces of what authorities said was meth.
.Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says the arrests were part of a joint investigation by the Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, WING - Western Nebraska Intelligence Narcotics Group, and the US Postal Inspection Service.
Court documents say Ewert told investigators he was a drug addict and had been receiving a drug package monthly, mostly for personal use but that he had sold some of the drugs he'd received in the past.
A search of the couple's home resulted in the seizure of a number of guns, a small amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia with residue that tested positive for meth and marijuana.
Ewert is being held on $200,000 bond on 2 counts of possession of meth, 3 counts of possession of narcotics, and single counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of hashish. Houser is being held on $50,000 bond pending filing of charges today
