(Neb)-4 Holiday Traffic Deaths So Far In Neb, 2 In SD
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - It's already been a deadly holiday on Nebraska highways, with a single accident Saturday morning about 10-miles west of Ogallala on Highway 26 claiming the lives of 4 people, a pair of married couples from Iowa.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 61-year old James and 54-year old Sheila Matheny of Bedford were on one motorcycle while 58-year old Michael and Jerolyn Weese of Council Bluffs were on the other when they were hit by another vehicle that crossed the centerline
The State Patrol is still trying to determine what caused the crash around 9:30 a.m. The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a Colorado hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
It's also been a deadly holiday in South Dakota, where the Highway Patrol says two people were killed and two others were injured when a pair of vehicles collided on Interstate 90 early Saturday morning near the Minnesota state line. Names have not yet been released.
The patrol says a 38-year-old female driver and 44-year-old male passenger were ejected from one vehicle, and were pronounced dead at the scene while 11-year-old girl in the vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries.
The 39-year old male driver and lone occupant of the second vehicle received life-threatening injuries and the Patrol says charges are pending against him.
