(SD)-Rapid City Hospital To Expand RC Mental Health Facilities
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Rapid City Regional Hospital plans to expand its emergency room over the next two years with the goal of providing better care for people suffering a mental health crisis.
Rapid City Regional CEO Paulette Davidson says the expansion will include 8 "safe rooms" where people can be cared for while their mental crisis stabilizes.
The announcement came following the second meeting of the West River Behavioral Health Alliance, a group formed in March to address the lack of mental health services in the Black Hills area.
Davidson says one of the topics discussed at the meeting was creating a mobile crisis-care unit staffed by specialists who would help de-escalate people in crisis and administer medication.
