(Neb)-Winds Up To 72 MPH Roll Through Chadron Area
CHADRON - A thunderstorm rolled through Chadron around 11:30 last night with winds up to 72 mph at the airport and 58 mph here at the KCSR/KBPY studios.
Nebraska Public Power District spokesman Mark Becker says the winds broke a utility pole inside the city, knocking out service to 38 customers.
Becker says the utility then had to take an additional 590 customers out of service around 3:45 to untangle wires safely, with power restored to all customers about an hour later.
NPPD's online outage map late this morning showed a third outage east of Chadron with 49 customers and an estimated restoration time of 5:20 MT this afternoon and 2 in the Whiteclay area affecting 36 customers with restoration expected around 12:35.
Other damage reports from around Chadron include the flag pole at the Chamber of Commerce office, the main signs at McDonalds and Eagle Chevrolet, a billboard along Highway 385, and a variety of street signs and trees.
A travel trailer on the sales area of the Eagles Nest RV Park just west of Chadron was blown over by the wind and rolled a short way down a small incline.
