(Neb)-Sheridan Co Accident Under Investigation
RUSHVILLE - Authorities are continuing to investigate a possible drunk driving accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 87 about midway between Rushville and Whiteclay.
Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons said the one-vehicle accident occurred a little before 3:00 Thursday about 12-miles north of Rushville.
All the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, were taken to the Indian Health Service Hospital in Pine Ridge, with the driver later transferred to Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Simmons says charges are pending and that authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.
Supporters of 4 beer stores in Whiteclay have warned for years that closing the stores would simply send those wanting alcohol on down the road to Rushville, increasing the chances for traffic accidents.
The beer stores closed last Sunday while waiting for the Nebraska Court of Appeals to act on the state's appeal of a Lancaster County District Court ruling overturning denial of the stores' license renewals by the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission.
