(Neb)-Unicameral Formal Rejects Residency Challenge
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Legislature has formally and unanimously dismissed a challenge asserting Senator Ernie Chambers, the longest serving lawmaker in state history, doesn't live in his north Omaha district.
Chambers was seated conditionally at the beginning of the session pending an investigation. The special committee that investigated the accusation brought by John Sciara, who lost to Chambers in the last election by a 4-1 margin, found no evidence to support the charge.
Committee chairman Sen. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse said in presenting the measure this morning that Chambers has been registered to vote in the district since 1960 and shared utility bills, receipts for home improvements and his daily print newspaper subscription all to that address.
