(Neb)-Omaha, NSAA Settle Discus Injury Suit
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An elderly woman who was struck in the head by a discus at the 2014 Nebraska state track meet in Omaha has been awarded $350,000 in a settlement.
83-year-old Bernice Gorecki was standing in the visitor area of the track meet at Burke High School when she was hit by the errant discus.
Gorecki and her husband sued the Omaha Public Schools and the NSAA - Nebraska State Activities Association - in 2015, alleging they failed in their duty to keep spectators safe.
School district spokeswoman Monique Farmer says steps were quickly taken to improve safety, including moving a spectator fence back farther.
