(Neb)-Weekend Accidents Keep NSP Busy In Chadron Area
CHADRON - An elderly Chadron woman is improving at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with injuries suffered in a 2-vehicle accident about 8:00 Friday night on Highway 385 north of its western junction with Highway 20.
The hospital says 88-year old Bonnie Goodman is listed in serious condition after having arrived in critical condition.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Goodman was northbound and preparing to go west on a county road when she made a left-hand turn directly in front of a southbound SUV driven by 31-year old Cody Hankins of Chadron.
Hankins told troopers he tried to avoid Goodman's car, but couldn't...resulting in a head-on collision. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and their airbags did deploy.
Goodman and Hankins were both taken to Chadron Community Hospital where Hankins was treated and released while Goodman was quickly transferred to Regional West by Flight For Life.
Four people escaped serious injury Sunday night when their van hit a cow on Highway 385 in the same general area as the Friday night accident. Three Chadron ambulances were dispatched, but all returned empty. The van suffered significant damage.
Early Saturday morning, one person was taken to Chadron Community Hospital following a 1-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 20 just west of Chadron.
17-year old Cody Madsen told the State Patrol he'd swerved to avoid deer and his SUV with 3 passengers rolled. None of the injuries were life-threatening
