(Neb)-Fire Burns 800 Acres, Destroys Homes Near Lake McConaughy
KEYSTONE, Neb. (AP) - Several homes were destroyed Sunday afternoon by a grass fire on the north side of Lake McConaughy that rekindled around noon after having started Saturday night and being controlled about 6 am.
Authorities believe it was human-caused, but haven't said intentionally or not.
KNOP-TV in North Platte reports that Keystone- Lemoyne Fire and Rescue says about 800 acres were destroyed with the count of how many homes were burned not yet known. Fire crews will remain on site overnight to guard against another rekindling.
More than 15 departments responded after the fire took off the second time and the Nebraska State Patrol evacuated a small number of homes as a precaution.
Authorities had to ask people to stay away from Lake McConaughy because they were blocking Kinglsley Dam and fire personnel are unable to get through to the fire.
