(Neb)-United Way Tops Box Butte And Dawes Goal
CHADRON - Supporters of United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte and Dawes Counties are still celebrating the announcement last week that it met its 2016-2017 campaign goal.
Director Karen Benzel is excited that the generosity of the community did more than just meet the $85,000 goal, it passed it by more than $3.500...coming in at $88,657
While part of Scottsbluff-based United Way of Western Nebraska, the Box Butte and Dawes Counties unit has its own campaign and all funds raised stay in that county. Dawes County was added to United Way just last spring.
United Way serves as an umbrella fundraising group for local non-profits, reducing the number of times businesses and individuals are asked to donate each year.
Benzel says 13 local non-profits received funds from United Way last year, including such groups or programs as Doves and Northwest Community Action, and she's been accepting applications the past few weeks from those wanting to be partners in the coming fiscal year. The deadline is the day after tomorrow.
Benzel says the applicants will be interviewed April 8th and should find out within a couple weeks if they've been accepted into the United family.
