By: John Axtell Posted at: 03/12/2017 09:32 AM RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Rapid City Zoning Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission has given preliminary approval to a change of zoning and preliminary subdivision plan for a newly proposed residential project in Rapid City aims to provide much-needed affordable housing.
The 48-acre Johnson Ranch subdivision by developer Hani Shafai in east Rapid City would have between 80 and 100 multifamily apartments and about 70 to 75 single-family residential units classified as "affordable workforce housing" priced between $140,000 and $190,000.
The Planning Commission ordered a traffic impact study be done before final approval after some residents complained about an expected increase in vehicle traffic once the development is completed.
