(SD)-Edgemont Man Given 5 Years In Enticement Case

By: John Axtell Posted at: 03/10/2017 05:51 PM
RAPID CITY, S.D. - An Edgemont man has been sentence to 5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to Transfer of Obscene Matter to a Minor for sending obscene material from his smartphone to an underage girl in May 2015.

49-year old Darren Scott Heller had been indicted by a federal grand jury last March on 3 counts, but accepted a plea bargain that saw prosecutors drop charges of Transportation of a Minor and Attempted Enticement of a Minor Using the Internet. He had faced a maximum penalty of 10 years to life under the original charges.

U-S Attorney for South Dakota Randolph Seiler says besides sending the girl obscene material, the charges are related to Heller using the internet and cellular connections to attempt to persuade her to engage in sexual activity as well as well driving her someplace to engage in that activity.
