(Neb)-Ricketts Impressed With Pine Ridge Job Corps Center Listen
CHADRON - Governor Pete Ricketts kicked off a 2-day visit to the Panhandle Wednesday morning by touring the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center south of Chadron.
The former CEO of online trading giant TD Ameritrade said he appreciated the tour because he knew very little about Job Corps coming in. After touring several of the center's training programs as well as its academic area and one of the dorms, Ricketts came away saying Job Corps seems to be great for the students and for the state.
Welding is one of the training programs offered at the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center and the governor seeral times reminded students of the job opportunities that will be available if the Keystone XL oil pipeline is finally built...including welding jobs at more than $120-per hour.
Ricketts met over the noon hour with the boards of the Chadron Chamber of Commerce and Northwest Nebraska Development Corporation, pushing his economic development and tax reform and relief proposals.
He spent the afternoon in Alliance touring the Parker Hannifan hose plant and taking part in a legislative forum. Ricketts will be in Scottsbluff on Thursday, touring the Scottsbluff High School Career Academy and the Western Sugar Cooperative processing plant before ending his Panhandle stay by addressing the Scottsbluff-Gering Kiwanis Club luncheon at the Scottsbluff airport.
