(Neb)-Power Outage Underway, KCSR/KBPY On, Station Phones Out
CHADRON - Nebraska Public Power District, pretty much on schedule, shut down the four Chadron substations about 7:30 tonight to replaced failed equipment. It's expected to last about 3:00
The outage affected all NPPD service in and adjacent to Chadron as well as Northwest Rural Public Power District customers from the state line to Table Road and Highway 385 west to Hawthorne Road.
Emergency generators at the KCSR/KBPY studios and the KCSR transmitter are allowing both stations to remain on the air with music and any breaking information about the outage that might arise.
When the power was first cut, a large number of vehicles were driving around...possibly to see what Chadron looks like with no lights - including street lights - except for the traffic signals at the intersection of 3rd Street/Highway 20 and Main Street.
Switching from the grid to a generator did knock out the KCSR/KBPY/Chadrad Communications phone system and it will likely be mid-morning at the earliest before it's restored.
