(Neb)-Sentencing Delayed For "Body In A Barrel" Killer
BRIDGEPORT, Neb. (AP) - The sentencing date in the Morrill County "body in a barrel" murder case has been postponed 2 weeks. 25-year-old Zachary Mueller of Bridgeport had been scheduled for sentencing a week from Monday on the 27th, but will return to Morrill County District Court on Monday March 13th
Mueller was convicted of 1st degree murder in the death of Pedro Dominguez of Colorado as well as 2 firearm counts. Since prosecutors did not seek the death penalty, he faces a mandatory life sentence on the murder county.
Dominguez's body was found in a sealed barrel floating in a creek near Bayard on Dec 4, 2015. The dead man's girlfriend testified that he was shot by Mueller as the three of them were riding in a car south of Bridgeport 12 days earlier.
Mueller was arrested in Cheyenne following a stolen car chase 2 days after the body was discovered.
