(Neb)-Key Witness Testifying Today At
BRIDGEPORT - Today is the second and most likely most important day of testimony of the 1st-degree murder trial in the Panhandle's 2015 "body in a barrel" case in Morrill County District Court in Bridgeport.
That's because the witness identified by both the prosecution and defense in opening arguments as being the key is testifying that 25-year old Zachary Mueller of Bridgeport shot and killed 33-year old Pedro Dominguez of Greeley, Colorado.
Felicia Talley was Dominguez's girlfriend at the time or his death and the mother of Mueller's 6-year old daughter. She says Mueller shot Dominguez as she was driving the men in a Volkswagen bug south of Bridgeport on Nov 22nd, 2015....nearly 2 weeks before the body was found when a farmer recovered the sealed barrel and opened it.
Defense Attorney Sarah Newell said in her opening arguments yesterday that Talley's credibility will be at stake and that when she is cross-examined, the jury will find out what really happened in the vehicle at the alleged time of the the shooting.
One part of Talley's testimony previewed by Warner yesterday, that Mueller was paranoid the day of the shooting, was backed up by testimony from Mueller's own mother. Michelle Litke said she had to go to his home the day Talley said the shooting occurred to try to calm him down after sirens from vehicles headed to an accident left him convinced law enforcement was "coming to get him."
Litke said her son was a methamphetamine user who acted irrationally a lot, adding that she felt both he and Talley were high on drugs when they visited her home earlier that day to see their daughter, whom Litke had adopted when the girl was just a year old.
