(SD)-Higher Entrance Fees At Badlands NP
BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK - Higher entrance fees are now in effect at Badlands National Park, part of a 2-phase hike with the second increase taking effect in 2 years.
Badlands Chief of Interpretation and Resource Education Christine Czazasty expects very little impact on visitor totals from the increases because she feels most people still see the park as a fair value.
Czazasty says the National Park Service began studying fee increases nationwide several years ago, with Badlands holding a series of public comment meetings in Dec 2015 that led to the decision to phase-in the increases.
The Badlands Annual Pass and the 7-day Vehicle permit fee both increased by $10 dollars to $40 and $20 respectively with Individual 7-day fees going to $10. The second phase in 2019 will make the Annual Pass $50, the Vehicle fee $25, and Individuals $12.
Public input also led Badlands to throw out a national recommendation to increase the 7-day Motorcycle entrance fee from $10 to $20 and instead left it at $10 until 2019, when it will go up to $15.
