(Neb)-Neb Records Apparent First 2017 Traffic Death
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - It apparently took a little over a day for Nebraska to register its first traffic fatality of the new year. The Nebraska State Patrol says a Crofton man was fatally injured in a crash early this morning in Knox County in the northeast corner of the state.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 55-year-old Kevin Jones was headed east on Highway 12 when he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled down an embankment, landing on its top. Jones was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Although the official traffic death count for 2016 isn't in yet, the last number from the State Patrol was 218. That would be 24 fewer than 2015 and 3 fewer than 2014.
