(Neb.)-Chadron Police Department Receives Grant
(Chadron)-From today through Monday, September 1st the Chadron Police Department will be participating in the “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” campaign sponsored by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. The Chadron Police Department recently received a grant from the NOHS in the amount of $1,428.76, which will provide ten officers and four dispatchers 56 hours off enforcement time in the enforcement period. This will be the twelfth DUI grant the Chadron Police Department has participated in along with multiple other agencies in our area and across Nebraska.
The purpose and goal of the campaign is in effect, “to contribute to the overall reduction of the injured and fatalities by deterring those who might decide to operate a motor vehicle while impaired.”
During the last campaign, the Chadron Police Department was successful in removing intoxicated drivers from the roads and we hope to build on the success of promoting safe and responsible driving in the community. The consequences of drinking and driving are jail time, large fines, loss of driver’s license and operating privileges as well as adverse effects on job prospects, and financial costs.
The Chadron Police Department will step up enforcement by conducting as many vehicle stops and making as many contacts as possible at high risk hours during the grant period in Chadron. The Chadron Police Department believes the chance of being caught is too high to risk given the consequences and would ask the public to be sensible, responsible and safe. If you plan on drinking, be sure to have a sober driver available.
If anyone has questions regarding this campaign, please contact the Chadron Police Department.
