(Wyo.)-Questions Raised About Work Leave By Lain

By: Dennis and Kathi Brown Posted at: 08/16/2014 11:32 AM
CASPER, Wyoming (AP) - A newspaper report says a candidate for state superintendent of public instruction led workshops outside the state for a for-profit organization while also working at the Wyoming Department of Education.

The Casper Star Tribune reports that Sheryl Lain didn't take leave from her normal work at the agency during the weekday workshops in 2011.

Lain told the newspaper in an email that she did not request time off work for those workshops because she did not think it was necessary.

As an exempt employee, Lain is not entitled to overtime pay and may not have to work a standard schedule.

Superintendent Cindy Hill said in a text message that she approved Lain's dual employment.

Lain is one of three Republican candidates for superintendent of public instruction in Tuesday's primary election.
