(Neb.)-Chadron School Board Met Monday Night
(Chadron)-The Chadron School Board met in regular session Monday night.
The board started their meeting with a presentation by Jane Darnell. She was speaking on behalf of the Rides To School Community Group. She was asking for suggestions for a solution to students who live on the outskirts of town who do not have a bus to ride to school. She has observed younger kids walking along the highway and would like to find a solution for these kids to get to school more safely. Anywhere between 2 and 12 kids at any given time walk a fair distance to get to school. The group is interested in volunteers and has contacted the Closer to Home Group to see if there are any grants available. The most viable source would be partnering with Community Action Partnership. She is hopeful that this year will be the year these kids could get a ride to school.
In other business, the board approved the payment of bills and claims and received a treasurer’s report. The school system is currently under budget for expenditures. The board also changed several policies that were mandated by the state. The board discussed the hiring of Johnson Controls to look at energy savings that the school system could complete. The group’s projects must be self-funded. The funding has to be in the energy savings that Johnson Controls find. The board would not be responsible for any payment if the company does not find any energy savings. The board took no action at this meeting on this issue.
The board reported that enrollment is estimated to be about the same as last school year. A special addition this year that the board highlighted on was the brand new stage curtains that were installed.
School starts Thursday and every school employee will be attending the “Together as a Team” training Wednesday morning. The next meeting of the Chadron School Board will be August 25th at 5:30 P.M. This will be a special board meeting.
