(Neb.)-Mountain Lion Sighting In Alliance Wednesday Night

By: Kevin Larsen Posted at: 08/07/2014 10:32 AM

(Alliance)-Around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night, Police officers from the Alliance Police Department and Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a Mountain Lion sighting in the 1300 Block of East Kansas Street in Alliance. Passing motorists reported seeing a Mountain Lion crossing Kansas Street and going into the Alliance Landfill area.

Officer searched the area, checking nearby trees, culverts, tall grasses and other places that a Mountain Lion might hide, but were unable to locate the Mountain Lion. There have been a few other recent reports of Mountain Lions being spotted along East and West Kansas Street. The incident was reported to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and they are investigating the sighting report.

Mountain Lions can be very dangerous. When a Mountain Lion is observed, report it to local law enforcement immediately. Try to keep visual contact with the animal until a law enforcement officer arrives, but do not leave the safety of your vehicle. Do not chase, or harass the animal and do not follow the animal on foot.
