(DAWES COUNTY)-The Dawes County Fair is already in its final full day of activities out at the Dawes County fairgrounds. A free breakfast was served by the Lions’ Club at 7:00 a.m. in the open air shelter, sponsored by Bank of the West. At 9:00 a.m., the 4-H beef show began and will continue throughout much of the day. The Make It and Take event for adults will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Henkens Roberts building. This event offer adults the opportunity to make some sort of a unique item that they will then be able to take home with them.

There’s lots of food options at the fair, especially some free options at 5:00 p.m. The Chadron Federal Credit Union will have free snow cones in Earl’s Park, the Dawes County Ag Society and Chadron Chamber of Commerce will provide free barbeque to fairgoers in the show barn, and First National Bank of North Platte will offer free watermelon in Earl’s Park.

The 4-H large animal round robin will take place in the grandstand area at 6:00 p.m., and from 6:45-7:00 p.m., 4-H photos will be taken and state fair exhibits and best of show exhibits will be featured in the 4-H building. At 7:00 p.m., the Rubber Check Race begins in the grandstand area and will feature a variety of teams vying for the fastest time as they make their way through an obstacle course.

New this year, the fair dance has been opened up from just being for the young people to being open to all fairgoers. Come dance with your sweetheart or just hang out and listen to music by the Twin Rivers Band from 8:00-11:30 p.m.

It’s a great day to head on out to the Dawes County Fair and have some fun.
