(Neb.)- Chadron School Board Accepts Holmquist Resignation
(Chadron-KCSR)- The Chadron School Board met at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening in the Central Office board room.
The board reviewed several policies, most of which were in their first readings, meaning the board does not have to take action on them at this time.
The board also accepted the resignation of long time Chadron Public Schools teacher Kurt Holmquist at Monday nights meeting.
Holmquist amassed 37 years of teacher all of which occurred in the Chadron School district.
Outside of accepting the resignation of Holmquist, the board also heard a request from Holmquist, asking if he could be reimbursed for unused sick days accumulated over time, even though he filed his resignation after the desired February 15th deadline stated in school policy.
The board did say prior to the presentation by Mr. Holmquist, that the school attorney advised that they take no action on the item listed on the agenda as “discuss, consider, and take all necessary action on a teacher request for the board of education to unilaterally grant an exception to the teacher negotiated agreement”.
Jonn McLain, current Chadron State College student, has been hired to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Holmquist. McLain will not take over his duties at CHS until after he graduates from CSC in December.
McLain will also become the high school girls basketball coach.
The board also approved the hiring of Janel Stewart as a half time early childhood special education teacher.
The next meeting of the Chadron School Board will be on July 14th.
