(Chadron)-A rural DawesCounty man has died, but officials are still trying to determine what the exact cause of death was. Dawes County Attorney/Coroner, Vance Haug and the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to investigate the unattended death of 77-year-old Garold Smith in rural Dawes County Thursday evening at approximately 6:15 p.m.
According to a press release from Haug’s office, Smith was found in a pasture, approximately twenty miles southwest of Chadron, by his wife and dog after they returned from town. He was trapped beneath a four wheeler and was unresponsive. Neighbors and law enforcement were immediately contacted for assistance.
Although the specific cause of death is still under investigation and not yet been determined, foul play is not suspected at this time. More information will be released as deemed appropriate.
