(Neb.)-Nebraska Judge Ruling Mires Keystone XL In Legal Limbo

LINCOLN, Neb. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - The Keystone XL oil pipeline's route through Nebraska will face months of additional delays now that a federal judge has invalidated the pipeline's path.

Elected members of the little-known Nebraska Public Service Commission said Thursday that they're waiting to see what will happen to the case, which the state is appealing. It could also delay President Barack Obama's final decision on the pipeline until after the midterm elections.

Judge Stephanie Stacy ruled Wednesday the pipeline should have been approved or rejected by the commission.

The pipeline would carry 830,000 barrels of oil a day from Canada to Texas Gulf Coast refineries. Opponents argue the project threatens the state's groundwater supply.

A spokesman for pipeline developer TransCanada says company officials are confident they can overcome the most recent hurdle.
