(S.D.)-Lodging Up But Gambling Down In Deadwood

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 10/25/2013 03:19 PM

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - More people stayed in Deadwood in September, but the amount of money wagered and revenues from gambling were down slightly from last year.

Total gross revenues for last month compared with last year were $10.1 million, a decrease of 1.27 percent or just under $131,000.

Total money wagered last month versus September 2012 was $109 million, down about 1 percent or $1 million.

Celebrity Hotel General Manager Ken Gienger says slot machine income remained largely steady, despite 200 fewer machines in town.

He says hotel occupancy was up, largely because of Deadwood Jam and people checking out the fall colors.

So far this year, gross gambling revenues in Deadwood are down nearly 1.5 percent and total wagering is off 3 percent from last year.
