(S.D.)-Rain Hampers Corn, Soybean Harvests In Dakotas

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 10/22/2013 02:48 PM
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - Weeks of rainfall in the Dakotas have been slowing this year's corn and soybean harvests.

Corn and soy farmer Scott Gauslow says he hasn't been able to get into his muddy fields south of Fargo, N.D., for about two weeks. He says the rain has been continuous, and some farmers have been dealing with stuck equipment.

The federal Agriculture Department says South Dakota farmers have harvested 75 percent of their soybean fields, and the harvest is 54 percent complete in North Dakota. Both crops were fully harvested by this time last year.

The corn crop harvest in South Dakota is 31 percent complete, and North Dakota's corn harvest has reached 14 percent. Both are lagging behind last year's pace and the five-year average.
