(CHADRON)-Seven Chadron State College Upward Bound students and three staff members attended the Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Pre-College Student Leadership Conference in Chicago, Ill., October 9th-13th.
The conference emphasized student learning and leadership development as well as college preparation, financial aid, goal setting and team building.
The Upward Bound students participated in a variety of workshops pertinent to high school students and also volunteered to introduce and assist the workshop presenters. The students and staff members also had the opportunity to “Discover Chicago” by visiting the Chicago Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium, WillisTower, The Bean, and enjoying an informative Architectural River Cruise.
The Chicago trip was a new experience for all of the students and the first city Maryline Watak, a ChadronHigh School senior from the Marshall Islands, has ever visited.
The students will present a summary of their trip and define how the conference helped them become better leaders at the Upward Bound quarterly meeting in December. The time, date and location for that event will be announced to the public at a later date.
