(Neb.)-SWANN Now Accepting Animal Carcasses
(Chadron)-The Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska has been granted a permit by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality to operate an Emergency Carcass Disposal Area. This disposal area is located at the SWANN landfill about 14 miles north of Chadron off of Highway 385. The trench has been excavated and carcasses can be accepted at this time.
People are asked to please be aware of the following: there is no additional fee for this service, this service is available for SWANN customers only (no out-of-state carcasses), and each load must be weighed prior to arrival at the landfill. There is a scale at the SWANN transfer station at Chadron, but there is no scale at the landfill. For convenience, people may weigh at any certified scale and bring a copy of the scale ticket with them when they unload.
People should call ahead to arrange an unloading time. People should NOT arrive at the landfill without prior arrangements. Weather conditions, safety concerns, etc. may disrupt the operation. To avoid hassles, people are asked to please call in advance. SWANN will work with people needing to dispose of carcasses.
The landfill is not scheduled to be open over the weekend unless they have requests. Weather conditions are a factor for the stockmen as well as landfill operator. People need to call for hours at 432-4245.
SWANN strongly encourages people to call their office for details, hours of operation, instructions, etc. in advance to make this as smooth as possible under the conditions, and they greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
