(S.D.)-Petition Submitted To Terminate Rec Center Funding In Lead
LEAD, S.D. (AP) - More than 200 Lead residents have signed a second petition to terminate city funding to the Handley Recreation Center.
The second petition was submitted after commissioners declared language in a previous petition misleading and voted to not accept it on Aug. 26.
The center's pool was closed two years ago because of high repair costs.
Resident Glorianne Davis she doesn't feel that enough progress has been made over the last couple of years for repurposing and refurbishing the center and working with nearby Deadwood.
Resident Bill Baker, who teaches aerobics classes at the center, says the city could keep the facility if people got behind it and came up with a way to fix it.
