By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 08/30/2013 09:59 AM

(Chadron)-One man was taken to the hospital after the motorcycle he was riding struck a deer. According to a report from the Nebraska State Patrol, the accident happened seven miles south of the Chadron State Park entrance on Highway 385 at approximately 8:15 pm.

The Patrol reports that 26-year-old John D. Payton of Rapid City was southbound on Highway 385 on a 2007 Honda motorcycle when a deer came into his path, and the fender of Payton’s motorcycle made contact with the deer. Payton then lost control of the motorcycle, and slid 150 feet.

Emergency personnel with the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, and transported Payton to Chadron Community Hospital. He suffered abrasions to his arm, back, shoulder and knees. Payton was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The motorcycle sustained an approximate $8,000 in damage.
