(Wyo.)-Rallies Protest Wyoming Disability Funding Changes

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 08/30/2013 09:33 AM
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - People rallied in Cheyenne and Casper to protest changes to one of Wyoming main programs for funding disability services.
The rallies were held on Thursday with several hundred people showing up at the State Capitol.
Earlier this year, state lawmakers ordered an overhaul of the Home and Community-Based Waivers program to allow more people into the system without increasing state spending. The program funds services like in-home care and vocational skills training.
But opponents argue that means less money for those already in the program. They want legislators and Gov. Matt Mead to consider increasing funding to the program.
Currently, the program serves about 2,200 people at a cost of about $105 million a year. There are about 600 more people waiting to get into the program.
