(Neb.)-Former Hemingford Police Chief To Be Sentenced Today
(Hemingford)-Former Hemingford Police Chief Mark Lindburg could receive a prison sentence when he appears for his scheduled sentencing later this morning. According to KNEB in Scottsbluff, in early July Lindburg entered a no contest plea to an amended charge of Attempted First Degree Sexual Assault of a Minor.
The Nebraska Attorney General's office says a Nebraska State Patrol investigation, which began in November, 2011, revealed the girl's parents found a text message on their daughter's cell phone from someone asking the girl to have sex that night. The parents called the cell number and Lindburg answered his phone identifying himself. The child's father later confronted Lindburg about the relationship that the girl also admitted to having.
It was also disclosed that the girl would sneak out of her home during evening hours and Lindburg would pick her up in a Hemingford police car while he was on patrol.
Sentencing is set at 11 a.m before District Judge Travis O'Gorman. Lindburg will also have to register as a sex offender.
