(S.D.)-Heat Could Set Late-August Record In South Dakota

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 08/27/2013 09:33 AM
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - The National Weather Service says South Dakota likely is experiencing its hottest final week of August on record.
Forecasters say the mean temperature - the average of the high and low of the day - could be as much as 3 degrees higher than the warmest on record.
Unusual late-summer heat has enveloped much of the Midwest. Temperatures in the Dakotas are expected to be mostly in the 90s throughout the week, with the humidity making it seem even hotter.
Schools throughout the two states are closing early or even calling off classes. The High School Activities Associations in both North Dakota and South Dakota have cautioned school officials to be mindful of the health and safety of athletes, coaches and officials.
