By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 07/09/2013 09:36 AM

(LINCOLN)-Some outdoor events have been scheduled to teach outdoor skills to women. A workshop for women to learn or hone shotgunning skills is scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area. This Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program will include trap, skeet, 5-stand and sporting clays.

The workshop, for women age 16 and older, costs $40 and includes a meal following an afternoon of shooting.

Contact Julia Plugge at 402-471-6009 or julia.plugge@nebraska.gov to obtain a registration form or download one at http://www.outdoornebraska.ne.gov/Education/Programs/bow/bow.asp.

Registration is also now open for a program in the fall that will help teach women outdoor skills.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is organizing the hands-on event in the Sandhills for women age 18 and older. It's scheduled for Oct. 4th-6th at the 4-H Camp in the Bessey Division of the NebraskaNational Forest near Halsey.

Participants can choose their activities from a list that includes hiking, canoeing, kayaking, firearm safety, fishing, bow fishing, GPS, camping, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, hunting, photography and dog selection and training.

Outdoor novices get preference, but experienced outdoorswomen are also invited. Organizers say the skills are taught in a non-intimidating, noncompetitive environment.

More information is available online at NebraskaBOW.com or from Peggy Kapeller at 402-471-5482.
