(CHADRON)-Stars, and stripes, and fireworks! Small town festivities on Independence Day help remind us of our freedoms. Crawford is hosting their annual Fourth of July celebration on Thursday. The day will begin with a 5K run starting at the Fort Robinson Post Playhouse with registration at 7:00 a.m. and the run at 7:30 a.m.
The Chadron/Crawford Boy Scout Troop 302 will host a fundraising breakfast from 7:00-10:30 a.m. at the Crawford Community Center, located at 1005 First St. Tickets are $5 per person, and are available at the door. Kids under 3 eat free.
The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. with this year’s theme, “Burnt, But Not Broken.” The parade route will run along Second Street, and Stereo AM 610 will be broadcasting live. The grand marshal this year is the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department with all firefighters who fought the Region 23 Complex fire last year as honorary marshals.
The Crawford Eagles Club will feature a picnic noon buffet after the parade, followed by music from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Come enjoy cool air-conditioned comfort, good food, music and fun.
The afternoon will boast fun and entertainment for the entire family in the city park, including live music by “Victory Underground,” food, vendors, crafts, bumper cars, and a bouncy house. Activities begin at noon and will run until around 5:00 p.m.
The Hwy 20 Tractor Club will have a Tractor Pull at the Gun Club area west of the Sale Barn. Weigh-ins are at 1:00 p.m., and the pull begins at 2:00 p.m. Trophies will be awarded, and everyone is invited.
Don’t forget the 40th annual Western and Wildlife Art Show at the Fort Robinson State Park veterinary building from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. A park permit is required. Fort Robinson will also feature a noon barbeque and buffet at their restaurant.
The 67th annual Old West Trail PRCA Rodeo will wrap up the day at 8:00 p.m. Fireworks will follow. Tickets for the rodeo are available at Saddlerock One Stop, Fort Robinson State Park, Heritage Seed, Crawford Pharmacy and C-Store, and Bomgaars or get them the night of the show.
*There is also a rodeo 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night with the theme, “Tough Enough to Wear Pink.” Proceeds will benefit the Circle of Light in Chadron.
