By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 06/26/2013 11:09 AM

(CHADRON)-A host of young people have been taking part in the Trunk Butte Christian School’s first session of Academic Summer Day Camp. The session started Monday, June 10th, and will wrap up this Friday, the 28th. School public relations officer Jennifer Monroe explains the whole premise of the camp.

Monroe says the young people have been kept quite busy the past two and a half weeks with various activities to help them learn and grow.

Monroe says most times kids don’t like the thoughts of attending a school-based learning program during the summer, but teachers Amanda Welch and Charles Johnson, who have been conducting the academic day camp, have turned the program into a special time.

Monroe says despite there already being at least 16 students signed up for the second session of academic day camp, there is still availability. The second session will run for three weeks from July 22nd-August 9th on Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Young people will need to bring their own lunches. The cost is $80 a week and is due each Monday. Monroe says the program was set up this way to help children who are able to attend the program for one or two weeks, but not the whole session. Parents are also welcome to tour the school any time during the day camp.

It’s been a busy summer for the school, says Monroe. They will participate in both the 4th of July parade in Crawford and the Fur Trade Days parade in Chadron soon and will also be holding a softball tournament sometime in August.
