(Wyo.)-Child Cancer Camp To Continue Another Year
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - Wyoming will hold another childhood cancer camp this year.
The state held its first camp for families affected by pediatric cancer and it turned out to be a success. The event attracted 38 campers from 10 families.
This year's "Camp Courage Wyoming 2013" is planned for August 16-18 at Dubois.
Jessica Perez is outreach coordinator for the Wyoming Comprehensive Cancer Control Program with the Wyoming Department of Health.
Perez says from 2001 through 2010, there were 218 cases of cancer diagnosed in children and adolescents in Wyoming. That's an average of 22 cases per year.
She says there are no cancer programs or hospitals in Wyoming equipped to handle the child cancer cases and children must travel out of state to receive care and treatment.
