(Neb.)-Hay Springs Experiencing Power Outage, Schools Out At 1:00 *UPDATED 2:01 p.m.*
*Update - 2:01 p.m. * Les Tlustos with Northwest Rural Public Power District has confirmed that all power should be back on to residents in Hay Springs.
Tlustos says as far as can be determined when examining the lines, the problem might have stemmed from an access of ice that might have built-up on the lines. The lines run parallel, and as ice periodically drops off one line onto another, Tlustos says a condition called galloping can occur.
When one line touches the other, that can cause breakers to pop and circuits to open, says Tlustos. Whatever the cause, the problem appears to have now been resolved.
*Update - 12:48 p.m.* Power is back on to residents south of Hay Springs; however, the power is still off in town. As a result, Hay Springs Public Schools will be letting out at 1:00 p.m. due to the outage.
(Hay Springs)-The City of Hay Springs is currently experiencing a power outage across the town. It appears that Nebraska Public Power District, in conjunction with Northwest Rural Public Power District, was replacing lines in the area, and a line that was being fed temporarily went down.
The outage extends from the Dunlap Substation to the Scott Substation and Hay Springs Substation. This will affect an area from the Box Butte Damn, over to the Flats and back across the city of Hay Springs.
Crews are on the scene to fix the problem. Power is starting to return and is expected to be fully back on within an hour or so.
